‘Only dead fish swim with the stream’ was a quote by Malcolm Muggeridge that we chanced upon during our time at an ad agency. It was resonated by our co-chairman, urging us to be persistent about ideas, subtly reflecting about the down-hill state of local/regional advertising. We couldn’t agree more. In fact it became our raison d’être that led us to start on our own. Our visualisation of this quote was translated onto this illustrated typographic poster. Below is an excerpt we’d like to share:
“…As individuals and as a creative community, what should we be persistent about? For me, it’s clear as day. We should be persistent about ideas and we should be prepared to fight for them. To be candid, there is a dearth of ‘fight’ in all of us. Creatives, planners and account handlers are all equally guilty of it. Instead of defending the work at meetings, we sit around like Buddhas. We take the path of least resistance. We give in. We go through the motion. We settle for the merely good because greatness is just too anarchic to deal with! To keep peace, we sacrifice the work. And life goes on. Malcolm Muggeridge described this condition as well. Only dead fish, he said, go with the flow…”
We hope this quote will inspire you, like it did for us.
